Durable Superhydrophobic Coating for Efficient Microplastic Removal

The pollution caused by microplastics around the world is an increasingly significant issue that has to be tackled with different methods and technologies. Here, we report a straightforward rapid process combining electrodeposition electrophoresis produce durable superhydrophobic coating on aluminum substrate (UNS A91070) static contact angle (153°), sliding (1°), hysteresis (1°). Field emission scanning electron microscopy high-resolution transmission showed presence of hierarchical structure nanolayers were 70 nm thick. chemical composition was also analyzed using attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, which revealed composed zinc laurate (Zn(C11H20COO)2) decreased surface free energy system. Moreover, high durability against abrasion P1200 SiC paper due TiO2 particles in upper layers as well homogeneous structure. Finally, taking advantage superoleophilic properties surfaces, ability remove high-density polyethylene from water studied.
